DESCRIPTION:Sunday February 9\, 2020\, 4 PM\, Music at 9th and Stewart\, Ge
 thsemane Lutheran Church\, Seattle.  Paul Thornock presents a recital on 
 the two manual Fritts organ Op 6 featuring music of Bach\, Buxtehude\, Swe
 elinck\, Alain and others.  \n\nTickets: $18 General\, $10 seniors and st
 udents\, free for kids 12 and younger.  A portion of all ticket revenue s
 upports nonprofit relief of immigrants\, as well as families experiencing 
 food- and housing-insecurity.  Advance tickets are available here.\n\n\nP
 arking is available on the street\, or at the adjacent Aspira garage for t
 he weekend rate of $10.\n\nPaul Thornock is Director of Music at the Cathe
 dral of St John the Baptist in Savannah\, Georgia.  He earned the Bachelo
 r of Music degree from the University of Puget Sound where he studied orga
 n with Edward Hansen and conducting with Paul Schultz. He earned the Maste
 r of Music in Organ Performance and Literature degree from the University 
 of Notre Dame as a student of Craig Cramer. While at Notre Dame\, he was g
 raduate assistant organist at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart under Gail 
 Walton. Thornock earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Universit
 y of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as a student of Roberta Gary
 .\n\nFor sixteen years\, Thornock was Cathedral Director of Music and Dioc
 esan Music Consultant for Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Catholic Diocese o
 f Columbus\, Ohio. He conducted the semi-professional Cathedral Choir\, th
 e fully professional Cathedral Schola\, and worked as Artistic Director of
  the Cathedral Concerts series. He released two choral CD recordings from 
 the Cathedral\, and was responsible for commissioning the Cathedral’s Pa
 ul Fritts and Co. organ. In addition to his cathedral responsibilities\, h
 e served on the faculty at Capital University Conservatory of Mu-sic and T
 rinity Lutheran Seminary teaching organ literature. Most recently\, Dr. Th
 ornock Director of Music at St. James Cathedral in Seattle and taught orga
 n at the University of Puget Sound.\n\nDr. Thornock has performed for regi
 onal conventions of the American Guild of Organists\, the 2008 national co
 nvention of the Organ Historical Society\, the American Institute of Organ
  Builders\, and has been heard as both an organist and conductor on the na
 tionally syndicated radio programs Pipedreams and With Heart and Voice and
  was a first place winner in the Strader organ Playing Competition. In 201
 2\, Thornock was awarded a grant from the Tangeman Sacred Music Center to 
 record four organs by Paul Fritts and Co.\, chronicling the firm’s evolu
 tion over four decades. Dr. Thornock has recently been invited to play a s
 olo recital at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2020.
