This is a message from the Seattle chapter concerning the meeting today. Sorry for the garbled first post. I have removed the formatting from this version.
Dear AGO Chapter Friends,
Our chapter event 3 pm Sat. January 21 is happening as scheduled. Some have inquired about the effect of the planned protest marches. Epiphany Parish 1805 38th Ave Seattle 98122 is in a quiet neighborhood far removed from the protests. Allow some extra travel time and choose a route that avoids downtown Seattle. I hope to see you Saturday at 3 pm. In case I-5 is stopped up through downtown, see some alternate directions below marked in yellow. The routes from Bellevue should work fine without alteration.
Saturday, January 21, 2017, 3 to 5 pm
Our January event will be held at Epiphany Parish of Seattle, 1805 38th Ave Seattle 98122, in the Madrona neighborhood. We will hear both their tracker pipe organs. The new Martin Pasi opus 25 was installed in April 2016 in a remodeled chapel. The organ is located in the front of the chapel behind the freestanding altar and has two manuals and 18 stops. Martin Pasi will be present to answer questions about the new organ.
The Fritz Noack organ in the church nave was installed in 1997. It has 3 manuals, 36 stops, and mechanical action. The tonal design of the Noack is influenced by the warm sounds of the American organ builders of the 19th century.
Both organs will be demonstrated by Tom Foster, Epiphany’s Director of Music, and Tim Drewes, Associate Musician. Open console will follow. Refreshments will be served in the Narthex. This event is our annual joint meeting with the Tacoma AGO chapter. Come and greet them while we enjoy these two beautiful pipe organs. The church can be reached from downtown Seattle and from Queen Anne by using the # 2 bus route. Bus routes through downtown may be affected by protests. Consider driving using a route listed below.
FROM THE NORTH
From I-5 southbound take the Bellevue 520 bridge exit. Drive through the tunnel & exit at Montlake (first exit.) Turn right & drive south on Montlake Blvd which becomes 24th Ave E and then 23rd Ave E. Turn left at E. Union St & continue east to 34th Ave. Turn left on 34th and continue as it curves to the right & becomes E. Denny. The church is on the right between 37th & 38th Avenues.
Other options from the north: take either the University Bridge or the Montlake bridge across the ship canal and then take the road through the Arboretum.
FROM THE SOUTH
From I-5 north take the James St exit & drive east on James. It becomes Cherry at the top of the hill. Continue east & turn left on 34th Ave. Continue as it curves to the right & becomes E. Denny. The church is on the right between 37th & 38th Avenues.
Consider using an earlier exit, for example, Dearborn, or safer yet, the M.L. King Way exit, take MLK Way northbound, turn right at Union and then left at 34th Ave. This completely avoids the downtown core.
FROM THE EAST via the I-90 BRIDGE Exit I-90 at Rainier Ave. S & drive north to Jackson St. Turn right on Jackson. Drive to 23rd Ave. & turn left. Continue to E. Cherry St. & turn right. Then turn left on 34th Ave. Continue as it curves to the right & becomes E. Denny. The church is on the right between 37th & 38th Ave.
FROM THE EAST via the Evergreen Point Bridge Take the Montlake exit. Drive south on Montlake Blvd which becomes 24th Ave E & then 23rd Ave E. Turn left at E. Union St & continue east to 34th Ave. Turn left on 34th & continue as it curves to the right & becomes E. Denny. The church is on the right between 37th & 38th Avenues.
