Paul Thornock, Director of Music at St James Cathedral Seattle, traces the origins of the cyclical organ symphony starting with the earliest published example, the Symphonie, Op 5 of Augustin Barié.   A brief lecture analyzing this work and tracing its influences on the later organ symphonies of Vierne and others will be followed by a complete performance of the work.
