As of July 2021, we have lost almost 4.2 million souls to COVID-19, with just over 600,000 of those being United States citizens. This unprecedented time of grief has been difficult, and music is here for us as we mourn our dead and remember our hope in the resurrection. To mark this tragedy, Epiphany Choir will offer a special Evensong featuring Herbert Howells’ exquisite Requiem. Rarely sung, this work differs from most Requiem settings as it is not a liturgical requiem, meaning it doesn’t follow the usual pattern of the Requiem mass. Instead, it sets comforting psalms and inspiring scripture to haunting harmony.
